Saturday February 08th – Abstract Tile Painting Workshop

Tile painting has long been around since the 15th century. It is super therapeutic as it allows the mind to focus on the single tile painting at hand and on nothing else. This focus toward one central topic relieves stress on the mind, and in turn relaxes the body.

In this workshop, we are taking a twist on the traditional tile painting technique by combining our best-selling abstract acrylic painting, this time round, on tiles, then turning the tiles into a set of 3 beautiful coasters with high strength resin top coat. Artist Mun from The ArtThingy will explore a variety of mark-making techniques with an emphasis on finding what works for you. Mun will demonstrate drawing and painting intuitively on tile. She will also share with you a few of her favorite abstract painters and help you understand some of the concepts behind non-representational painting (painting without recognizable imagery). You will be encouraged to try new things as a way to experience breakthroughs. You will be finding ways to develop your own way of applying paint and to compose the visual space.

During this session, as oppose to traditional canvases, you will work on 3x 10x10cm tiles. The tiles you have completed will stay with us in the studio to be left dry and glazed with high gloss heat-resistant resin which will take 1 day to cure.

Session Includes:
– All materials & tools for the session
– You’ll be sketching and painting 3 pieces of 10x10cm ceramic tiles
– Take home 3x 10x10cm ceramic tiles/coasters
– Delicious refreshments

*The tiles will take approximately 2 days to glaze and dry completely. You can opt to pick up the tiles from our studio within 2 weeks during the weekends only or have them mailed to your address.
